Lifebanc began 35 years ago as one of the original seven independent organ procurement organizations in the United States. Since then, we’ve been serving Northeast Ohio as a nonprofit organ and tissue recovery organization to more than 80 hospitals and two transplant centers. But, our mission cannot be accomplished alone.
A national system matches available organs from the donor with people on the waiting list based on blood type, body size, how sick they are, donor distance, tissue type and time on the list. Sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, race, income, celebrity and social status are never considered.
Once you have registered with United Tissue Network, it does not prohibit a donor’s wishes for organ donation. However, while organ donation does not prohibit someone from whole-body donation, loved ones will have to coordinate with organ donation organizations. We recommend doing so in a timely manner to ensure all donation timelines are met.
